Title: "Nonsmooth regularity in robust control"

Abstract: In the design of robust control systems we often seek to optimize nonsmooth functions of the system parameters. Examples include the distance to instability or uncontrollability, and the H-infinity norm. Crucial to understanding both the theory and the algorithmic behaviour of such functions is their subdifferential regularity (in the sense of Clarke). I will discuss this notion of regularity and its applications, and prove it holds for several important functions in robust control.
