Title: The North American OpenMath Initiative

Abstract: PolyMath has a central role in the development of international standards for communicating and manipulating mathematics online. We describe our work with OpenMath, which includes the world's first release of Java libraries for math communication, and techniques for rapidly developing math applications using JavaBeans. These techniques allow non-programmers to easily develop and deploy mathematical software online.

The resulting systems will hopefully form the core Java libraries for all scientific and engineering communication, and will be used in applications ranging from K-12 education through to collaborative systems for advanced research all over Earth, and out into Space.
