A Web-based Maple-assisted Document Annotation and Math Activation System: Functional Specifications

David Fayegh

Abstract

This internal document describes the functional components of a Web-based document annotation and Maple-assisted math activation system implemented and partially evaluated during the three day workshop on Organic Mathematics (December 12-15, 1995) at SFU's CECM.

We decomposed the system into a set of quasi-independent subsystems to enable the parallel development of the various component modules with minimal amount of effort invested during the integration of the various pieces.

The overall objective of the system was to enable the dynamic integration of material from distributed sources (such as existing preprint and other document servers) in a unified and coherent framework for annotation of on-line mathematics journal papers and Maple-assisted activation of arbitrary or author-specified expressions within.
