"Non-profit scientific publishing."
Abstract
Non-profit scientific publishers rely on substantial contributions from the scholarly community for their existence, and the community is finding it increasingly difficult to provide that support. Academics are squeezed by increasing expectations and responsibilities from their employers, and have little time left to devote to be volunteer editors. Institutions find that demands on their space and the pressure to put every dollar of resources into teaching and research makes it difficult even to provide space for editorial offices.

Challenges in the form of increased costs and difficulty in raising corresponding revenues face non-profit journals. This is exacerbated by the demand for and increased costs of getting into electronic publishing.
