"A new model for peer review, neither white nor gray"

Abstract

Over the past several years the Internet in general and the arXiv in particular have markedly changed scholarly communication in several areas of mathematics. This transformation, which is even further underway in physics, calls into questin the traditional dichotomy between "preprints" and "publications", or as some call it, the "white" and "gray" literature. The "white" literature still blesses research papers with peer review, but it may no longer be needed for disseminating those papers. I will propose a new model for peer review that does not separate the literature into "white" and "gray".
