"Alternate media, alternate discourse - new challenges in publishing"
Abstract
As research in diverse fields is increasingly conducted in collaborative immersive environments great challenges emerge to traditional notions of "the literature." Experiential data encounter without recourse to traditional codes for that data spawn new intellectual processes and new intellectual discoveries that are unlikely to be well served by traditional notions of academic publishing. Stewart will provide examples of serious work in immersive environments and will raise questions about how the academy must respond to take advantage of the insights obtained from collaborative data encounter through immersion.
