R.D. Kriz is currently an associate professor in the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Previously he was a Materials Research Engineer at the National Bureau of Standards and an aircraft structural designer using light weight advanced composite materials. He received his B.S. degrees from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

His area of research is in materials research, solid mechanics, structural design, and non-destructive testing with 18 years experience mainly with composite materials. He is the founder and director of the Laboratory for Scientific Visual Analysis.
